Get out the avocado seed
Take an avocado and remove its seeds. Wash the seeds and remove every trace of fruit residue. Such types of seeds are glossy and large, and can easily be cleaned with the help of a soft cloth. Set aside the seed to be dried for 1 – 2 days.
Fill up a small jar
Use lukewarm water to fill up a small jar to within an inch of its rim. Identify the bottom and top of the avocado seed. Most of the seeds are flattened or rounded on the bottom and pointed at the top. Place toothpicks into the avocado pit Push in a toothpick into the avocado pit flesh to ¼ - ½ inch, based on the seed’s size. You should let the toothpick rest a little under the halfway mark on the avocado seed with the sharp, pointed edge pointing upwards. Place another toothpick at the other side. You should add a toothpick at equal distance between the two first toothpicks. Repeat the process and insert 4 toothpicks at equal distances.
Let the seeds sprout
Place toothpicks on the Mason jar rim, to allow the seed bottom to rest in water. Keep the seed in a warm spot, where the water will be warm enough to accelerate germination. Avocados can sprout as quickly as 10 days when they are kept in warm surroundings. However, germination can take as much as 5 weeks.
Look for the emergence of root
Check whether a thick white root emerges from the underside of the seed. Do not worry in case the seed splits. It is normal and the plant will not be damaged. Have the seed submerged in water for all times. If the water gets cloudy or stagnant, change the water. Sometime after the root emerges, leaves can come out from the top.
Let the plant grow
allow the plant in the jar with water to grow until it is 8 inches in height, and sprouts several leaves before planting it in soil.
